ABOUT OUR MISSIONS

The Missions Committee is a vital link between a needy world and our congregation.  The Committee seeks to help fulfill the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of people who do not yet follow Christ and his teachings and those who may be hungry, sick, fearful or lonely.

We believe that everyone is called and capable of serving others in Christ's name! Our mission is "go out in faith" as we follow Christ's call to be in ministry alongside the least of these among us.

There are many mission projects to serve in at Severna Park United Methodist Church. Among them are:

Appalachia
Service Project
(ASP)

The Appalachia Service Project is a non-profit home repair project with and for the poor of Central Appalachia.  It is offered through the United Methodist Church but is open to all denominations.  The goal is to give senior high youth an opportunity to put their faith into action while making a significant difference in the lives of Appalachian families.

The volunteers who go are placed into 6-member work teams overseen by competent, faithful adults; each work team works on the home of one family for a week, thus getting to know them well and understand a different culture.  Evenings are spent in discussions with singing, group games, and usually a trip out to a local ice cream parlor.  The trip is from Saturday to Saturday, usually in late June or early July.
