BRIGETTE'S HOUSE
In a collaborative,
ecumenical spirit, the property at 9720 Wilkens
Ave. in Baltimore was given new life and has
become Brigitte’s Place, a day shelter for women
in need. Brigette's Place got its name from a
women who died from and overdose.
Previously, the Wilkens Ave.
property was boarded up and abandoned. The
congregation of Severna Park UMC claimed the
house for Christ. Their prayers of blessing
followed two intense years of rebuilding,
renovation, decorating and following the nudges
of the Holy Spirit.
In the Wilkens
Avenue area, there are women who are homeless;
who are addicted to heroin, the drug of choice;
women engaged in prostitution; and women who
don’t know the hope of a different future.
Brigitte’s Place
provides these women with showers, laundry, a
change of clothes, some food, basic hygiene
products and a chance to enter into a
relationship with someone who wants them to know
healing and wholeness. “In the end, it’s all
about the relationships that will be formed
here,”
