HEAVEN’S KITCHEN

Heaven's Kitchen provides an opportunity to serve a hot meal to folks in the Brooklyn community once a month (every 4th Saturday). Volunteers may help cook, set tables and serve. We also minister to our guests by providing clothing, toiletries and other essential items. All are welcome to help in this ministry, contact Heaven's Kitchen.

Choptank River Cruise"ALL" CHOPTANK RIVER CRUISE & CRAB FEAST

After a bus ride to Hurlock, Maryland, we'll be welcomed aboard the Dorothy-Megan, a working replica of an authentic paddlewheel riverboat. As the Dorothy-Megan cruises along the Choptank River, we will enjoy a unique view of the natural beauty of Maryland's Eastern Shore.

 

Following our cruise, we'll savor plenty of hot and spicy crabs, cool drinks, and the fellowship of friends while dining in the waterside atmosphere of the Suicide Bridge Restaurant. This great crab feast includes steamed crabs, crab soup, fried chicken, clam strips, corn-on-the-cob, coleslaw, and dessert. Following our delicious lunch, our return home will include a stop at an Eastern Shore produce stand.   

 

Join us for this fun day for only $99 per person, with payment now due not later than June 10. Please write checks payable to SPUMC and include in the memo line: Cruise & Crab Feast. For reservations, email Dawn Cullis.  The bus will depart the church parking lot at 9:30 AM and return 6:00 PM.

VIM MISSION TRIP - COSTA RICA

SPUMC Volunteers in Mission is planning a trip to Costa Rica for a construction oriented program in the southern part of the country.  If you are interested in this trip please contact Mel Merritt right away since there are a limited number of spaces available. VIM trip first timers are free, returnees only pay about $300. UMW FALL RETREAT

The 2015 United Methodist Women's Fall Retreat will focus on “Our Sisters’ Gifts” and featuring the talented actor and singer, Christine Demuth, as one of our guest speakers. "ALL" AUTUMN LEAF TRAIN RIDE

Experience the golden age of railroading as you chug across bridges, clickety-clack through lush tall forests, wind through narrow rock cuts, and whistle past homes in the beautiful valley of the Red Clay Creek.  

 

A few seats are still available on this excursion ride from Wilmington to Hockessin, Delaware. It’s a beautiful time of year to sit back and relax while you ride on the Wilmington & Western Railroad through picturesque countryside.  Contact Dawn soon to reserve your seat.  $75 per person, due no later than September 1.

VIM Trip to UMCOR West

Salt Lake City, Utah

This facility, known as UMCOR West Office and Depot, augments the main depot in Louisiana (Sager Brown) and serves as a material resource to assemble and store UMCOR emergency supply kits. 

      

During our mission week, we will focus on preparing emergency kits such as health, school, sewing, birthing, bedding, etc.  If you would prefer to do something different, there are also opportunities to sew layettes and infant jackets in the UMCOR West sewing room or to work in the Methodist Thrift shop or the food co-op, and even do some construction if that is where your heart is. 

     

The trip is now full, however, there is a waiting list for those who still might be interested  For questions, please contact Gary Winch.

Noon in Fellowship Hall

Come one, Come All!  It will be such a sensation, an afternoon of fellowship, singing, and conversation. Bring your favorite dish to share whether it’s a casserole, side dish, meat, or dessert. Lunch will be followed by a delightful hymn sing.

"CHRISTMAS CAROL"

Travel to the Majestic Theatre in Gettysburg, PA, and enjoy Dickens' classic   Christmas story of what Christmas is really all about. Before the show, we'll stop at the Dobbin House Tavern for a delicious buffet luncheon in an historic 1776 stone home which has been beautifully and authentically restored as a colonial manor restaurant. Payment of $100 per person is due to Dawn Cullis by October 15th to make a reservation for this fun trip filled with holiday spirit.

WOMEN'S SPRING RETREAT

Daughters of the King VII will be held at Sandy Cove on April 1, 2, and 3, 2016.  Mark your calendars now and reserve the date so you can join your sisters in Christ for some good fun, good food, and good fellowship. The retreat is open to all women of the church and their friends. The cost is $215.00.  Reservations will begin in September. Our theme  "Spring Cleaning - Body, Mind, and Soul", scripture: Luke 10:27.  Watch for more information or contact Helen White or Dawn Cullis.
