SUNDAY
Worship SERVICES
Each of our three Sunday morning
services of worship offers unique features:
INFORMAL
SERVICE
The
8:00am worship
service
originated with a group of lay men and women who created a worship
setting that provides an informal opportunity for participants to both
witness to their faith and share in the context of prayer the joys and
concerns of life. While the pastors create
the order of worship and preach, the rest of the service is led by laity
from the congregation. This service
provides a
uniquely intimate setting for worship and all are welcome to
join!
CONTEMPORARY SERVICE
The
9:30am worship
service is
characterized by contemporary music which is led
by a praise team and the contemporary choir.
All who attend are encouraged to worship in
whatever way they feel led, whether that means standing, clapping, or
sitting. Our responses to God through worship will take a variety of
forms! This service is open to everyone and
is usually attend by a wide range of young adults
and families. This service is organized
and lead by the pastoral staff as well as the lay leaders of the
church. There is also a time of sharing of
joys and concerns and a time of prayer at the altar for the
congregation. We
regularly celebrate Communion, Baptism, and the
joining of new members. Also, we often
will highlight leadership from our Youth Ministry, Missions, Bible Study
Classes, Scouts, Children's Christian Education Programs, and various
special musical presentations. (A variety of Sunday School classes are
offered during this time as well).
TRADITIONAL SERVICE
The
11:00am worship
service is
characterized by the
rich liturgy and music that is a part of
the traditional Christian
worship experience.
The pastoral staff at SPUMC organizes the service, composes the liturgy,
and preaches; however a large amount of laity participate in the
leadership of this service. During this service we worship through a
variety of music which includes the singing of hymns,
pieces by the Sanctuary Choir, special soloists,
and pieces on the piano and organ.
We regularly
celebrate Communion, Baptism, and the joining of new members. Also,
we often will highlight leadership from our Youth
Ministry, Missions, Bible Study Classes, Scouts, Children's Christian
Education Programs, and various special musical presentations. (A
variety of Sunday School classes are offered during this time as well).

Seasonal Celebration of Worship
Celebrations of worship on Christmas Eve, Ash
Wednesday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Thanksgiving Day provide
additional opportunities to gather together and remember God's grace.
An Easter Sunrise Service in our Memorial Garden and a series of
Wednesday evening Lenten and Advent classes with a special focus are
also offered each year.

CHAPEL IN THE WOODS & MEMORIAL GARDENS
Throughout the centuries, Christian churches in Europe and America
have provided a final resting place for church members on church
grounds. Severna Park United Methodist Church offers this
option for the interment of cremated remains.
The garden provides a quite place to meditate and pray. Easter Sunrise
service often takes place in the garden chapel.

Worship Hospitality
Greeters are available to welcome and
assist everyone as we gather and share in the celebration of worship.
Ushers are prepared to assist with special seating needs and
to provide electronic hearing devices and large print hymnals and
bulletins upon request. Ushers provide additional assistance
during the worship services and oversee the video taping of the weekly
service.
Our
Altar Guild and
Communion Servers Guild are
composed
of lay men and women who receive instruction as to these important
worship-related services from the Pastors and then they are assigned to
their various responsibilities.
Between services enjoy some coffee, tea and donuts as we
gather for fellowship in our Fellowship Hall

Eucharist Celebration
As United Methodist Christians, we
believe in a nurturing Triune God who desires a deep, loving and ongoing
relationship with His children. The Eucharist (also called "The
Lord's Supper" and "Holy Communion") is the visible sign of the baptized
Christian's covenant with God as initiated and revealed through Christ
Jesus.
All (of any age) are invited to the Lord's Table; the
sacrament of Holy Communion is offered the first Sunday of every month
as well as during other seasonal celebrations.
