The Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC)
is the human resources team that works to integrate the lay and
clergy leaders' focus on the mission of the Church - to make
disciples of Jesus Christ. The SPRC manages the relationships
between the pastor(s), staff and congregation by working within the
congregation to interpret the Severna Park United Methodist Church's
(SPUMC) mission and vision with individuals and groups - including
the pastor(s), lay staff, the congregation (individuals and
collective), the community outside the church, the District
Superintendent, and the United Methodist Connectional Church.
The SPRC provides a means of
communication among the pastor(s), staff and congregation about the goals
and efforts of the ministry; confers about staff needs, ministry direction
and reviews their effectiveness, consults with the District
Superintendent, supports continuing education for the staff, and helps
identify members whom God may call for the ordained ministry. The
committee consists of nine members elected to three year terms each, in
three classes, to permit carryover of members and provide continuity.
One member must be a young adult, and the lay leader and lay member of the
annual conference are also members.
